Caramelo Tortillas
We’re kind of addicted to these Caramelo tortillas at Kitchen 511 and have decided that all others we’ve sampled over the years pale in comparison. We’ve tried both of the flavors above, as well as the Pork Fat tortillas, but I’d say the family fave is Avocado (particularly for Cate, who’s vegan). It takes a month or more to receive an order (from Lawrence, KS), so I typically purchase 6 packs at a time, freeze them and place a re-order before I run out. We use them for breakfast, lunch and dinner, as was the case this past weekend. I made short-rib tacos for Superbowl Sunday, and the next morning Christian piled leftover short ribs and a fried egg atop one of these delicious Sonoran-style flour tortillas. They’re $6.99 for a pack of 12 and, trust me, totally worth the wait. I’m hoping they’ll soon show up on the shelves of my favorite local markets. You listening Whole Foods? Old World? Wegmans?
